Caneel Bay Honeymoons: “Amazing Wedding at Caneel Bay”

My husband and I were married at Caneel Bay last weekend and stayed the week for our honeymoon. In a word, the entire experience was AMAZING!

From the minute we started working with the Caneel staff to plan the wedding, to the day they came to say goodbye before we got on the ferry to go to the airport, we were treated like family.

Vera Payne is the terrific wedding planner for Caneel Bay, and she will literally take you under her wing to guide you through every step of planning a destintation wedding. It doesn't matter if it's just the two of you, or a group of 35 like we had in the for the weekend, her attention to detail and making sure you and your guests are pleased is second to none.

The director of catering, Ruben Alvarez, and the florist, Felipe Ayala, round out a team of professionals! And, our band, Greg Kinslow's "In the Sand Band" was perfect - if you want a band for your wedding, hire them.

About the property itself - Caneel is gorgeous - acres of lush foliage, 7 pristine beaches, wild donkey and deer roaming around, mountain vistas.

We stayed on Turtle Bay Beach in a beachfront room and thought that it was the best spot on the property if you like privacy and a beach setting you couldn't imagine any more beautiful. Snorkeling is great on the right side of the beach.

The rooms are rustic but adequate - don't expect marble bathrooms and luxury, but to walk out of your room onto the beach is well worth it.

We've stayed in many 5 star resorts, and I would take Caneel with it's natural beauty any day.

If you like a lot of action, luxury, nightclub, casino, etc., don't go to Caneel. But, if you like a beautiful surrounding, amazing beaches, friendly people, and a place to unplug, this is for you.

You have a lot of options for day sails, tours of the island, etc. Our favorite was a sail and snorkeling with Captain Pat and Beverly on the Kalina. Great people, cool sailboat, even better views of the islands from the boat.

The food at Caneel was much better than the other reviews indicated - I think most will find it expensive if you're not used to big city prices (we live in Washington DC) - but the breakfast buffet was good, the Grill had quick salads, burgers, nachos that are perfect for the beach, and the Turtle Bay Estate House had terrific food.

Our wedding was held on the point at Turtle Bay and then catered at the Estate House, and it was delicious.

It's also worth the $5/person cab ride into Cruz bay to try local restaurants such as Morgan's Mango, The Lime Inn, ZoZos, Waterfront Bistro, and Cafe Roma.

My only criticism, if you can call it criticism, is that I got a lot of mosquito bites while walking around the property. It's a tropical island, so just be prepared with bug spray and you're good to go.

My entire group is talking about a reunion next year, so we'd definitely recommend this to you as a wedding destination or a beach vacation!

“Wedding at caneel bay”

We recently got married at Caneel Bay, in ST John (Aug 3, 09) and it was an amazing experience.

We didn't want a big wedding, we wanted an easy, fun, comfortable event and what the wedding coordinator did for us was the most beautiful and tasteful wedding ever.

Vera Payne and Ruben Alvarez have been so nice and helpful during the entire process. Always available and extremely kind.

ALL our guests were so impressed and touched by the location and cannot stop talking about it. It was so romantic and fun! We knew the resort but we got to really experience it during our stay.

Granted that the island is beautiful and the weather was fantastic, still the set up, the music, the food, everything they arranged was just incredible. The best part is that they made it so easy on us. We didn't have to do anything but show up!!

The room was right next to the ceremony (Turtle Bay Point) and was nice and clean. The staff was all very helpful.

The place is very relaxing, the private beaches have service with food and drinks on the beach and they are very secluded. The entire experience has been extremely romantic and comfortable, we can't wait to go back there.

“An Amazing Anniversary”

My husband I spent our first anniversary at Caneel Bay. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Our room was on Turle Cove, one of the smaller, more private of the seven beaches at the resort. We snorkled in the cove every morning, where we saw beautiful fish and several turtles.

At night the deer and wild donkeys would come by the room and we had fun watching them too.

The golf cart system they have makes it easy to get around the large resort, and not having phones or TV added to our relaxation. We purchased a meal plan, so we ate every night at the resort at whichever restaurant was open (only one is open each night).

My husband and I are experienced divers and had a good experience with the dive shop at the resort.

The front desk was extremely helpful. It was easy to make reservations for dinner each night, and they were able to answer any questions we had. They even helped us make arrangements to go Tortola to swim with the dolphins.

On our last day there, the breakfast staff packed up some of our favorite breakfast fruits and treats and take with us on the ferry to St. John. It was very sweet. I can't wait to go back.
