Water Sports: Water, water everywhere.... it is where all the action is in the Virgin Islands! Whether you splash, dash, dip or dive, there is a tide of activities among the waves that will have you aching to get your feet wet!
Swimming and Snorkeling: Refer to the places to explore beach guides to find the best snorkeling and sunning spots for each island. Some are an ocean of people, parties and water sports, while others offer tranquil sands for marathon lounging. Whichever beach you choose, be sure to bring your snorkeling gear. There is always something to see beneath the waves.
Diving
Diving: Delving a bit deeper, you will enter a spectacular world of vivid coral reefs, colorful tropical fish, majestic sea walls, and secretive shipwrecks. There are so many great diving spots in the Virgin Islands, you could spend your entire vacation under the sea.
Each underwater excursion explores a vastly different seascape. Tanks and equipment are readily available at several dive shops. Less experienced divers can take PADI certification classes, then join one of many dive tours available.
Coral World Ocean Park
Coral World Ocean Park (340-775-1555) is perhaps the most popular attraction on St Thomas. There are so many fascinating activities to enjoy all in one place that you will want to make a day of it. Take a walk on the wild side-under water! Sea Trekking explores the land down under (water) with a walking trail on the ocean floor. Don a space-age air helmet for a first-hand introduction to local sea life. Get down with a SNUBA tour or take a spin on an action-packed motorized water glider. Jump in the pool for a frolic with a playful sea lion or have him paint your picture. Coral World also offers many activities that don't require a swimsuit or towel. Visit the underwater observatory, touching pools and marine exhibits. Feed nectar to brilliantly plumed lorikeets or hand-feed a majestic stingray. Stop for some lunch, then cool off with a swim and snorkel at the adjacent Coki Beach.
Windsurfing, Kite Boarding and Surfing
Windsurfing, Kite Boarding and Surfing: A constant sea breeze makes the islands ideal for windsurfing and kite boarding. Many resorts offer equipment rentals and lessons, as do most water sports shops. Sapphire Beach on St Thomas and Divi Carina Bay on St Croix provide the most popular windsurfing waters. Surfing is optimal from November through March.
The Atlantic shores on the north side of St Thomas and St John are the most active surf spots, with some 6 to 8 foot swells. Check out Hull Bay, the local favorite on St Thomas, and Reef Bay on St John.
